Coaching

Coaching is a key focus at Te Kura Tennis Club. We offer a comprehensive junior coaching program that allows juniors of all ages and abilities to get involved.

In the early stages, children can learn the fundamentals of the game in our Tennis Hot Shots programme. They can progress through the stages as their skill level increases and there are extra options like Coach Supervised Matchplay, a Hot Shots Development Squad and private coaching to further their development. When players are ready, they can play for a Te Kura team in the Canterbury interclub competition. In addition to weekly team coaching, there is Winter Group Coaching, development squads and private coaching.

Seniors can get individual lessons, do adult beginner coaching , take up cardio tennis for fitness and competitive senior players who play interclub for Te Kura also receive weekly team coaching.

The coaching programme is managed by Head Coach Hugo Nurse-Strang and is supported by a great team of qualified coaches who boost the extensive programme with their enthusiasm and expertise.

 Hugo Nurse-Strang -

I am a driven and passionate coach with over eight years of experience working with players at all levels. I have been the Head Coach at the Te Kura Tennis Club since September 2011, a role that I thoroughly enjoy.

The main objective of our coaching program is to help all of our players realize their potential and reach their goals, no matter how big or small. Myself and my team of coaches aim to create an environment at the club that is inspiring, competitive and fun. We are dedicated to every individual and we are always looking to improve, which are values that we look to instill in our players.

In addition to my role at Te Kura, I am also involved in Tennis Canterbury Region's player development program as the under 11s boy's and girl's development squad coach. I also coached the 12 yr old boys Canterbury team that finished 2nd at the 2013 national teams event. I have also coached the North-West and Southern teams respectively in the 2012 and 2013 U10 Wilding Challenge competition. I received Tennis Canterbury's Coach of the Year award for the 2012 - 2013 season.
