Te Kura Tennis Club

The Te Kura Tennis club has a vision to both encourage and develop junior tennis. We also aim to create a family friendly environment by providing opportunities within the club for all family members. Our goal is to support programmes for junior players, Ladies mid-week players and senior players. We welcome both recreational and competitive players.

The Te Kura Junior Tennis membership currently numbers 200. In 2007/2008 the club had 22 interclub junior tennis teams which have had a high degree of success within the Canterbury Tennis Interclub competition. For most junior teams, the Te Kura club-room acts as a base for team pick ups and drop offs by parents rostered on at weekends for transporting players. Most Saturdays we have a BBQ at the club. This provides a great opportunity for the children to catch up with friends and other players after their interclub games.

Location and Facilities

The Te Kura tennis club is situated adjacent to the Christchurch Boys High school on Kahu Road. It has the following facilities and activities.

4 Acrylic hardcourts with lights and access to 6 additional Astro-grass courts, the later associated with Boys High.

A well appointed club house with changing rooms, toilets, kitchen facilities and a lounge area. The club house has a veranda facing the courts and is a great place to view games being played on the main courts.

Senior, Midweek Ladies and Junior divisions which accommodate a wide range of abilities and age groups.

Junior (group) coaching on Friday after school and Saturday mornings and mid week team coaching for Interclub teams.

A strong Junior interclub representation with boys and girls teams from ages 10 to 18.

Organized events throughout the year including tournaments, BBQ and other social events.
